- Directors Jen and Sylvia Soska wrote a fan piece on V.C. Andrews, which isn’t exactly about film but is perfect nonetheless. I would kill to see the Soska sisters do an adaptation of one of V.C.’s novels. (My Sweet Audrina is the most important feminist camp horror film that’s never happened, right?)
- In fact, you should probably be reading the Soska Sisters’ blog anyway. For WIH month, they’ve been doing features on important women horror icons: Lisa Marie, Naomi Watts, costume designer Colleen Atwood (of Edward Scissorhands fame), Shirley Jackson, and others.
- Day of the Woman is doing a fabulous series called The ABC’s of Women in Horror
- Luke Walker commented on his favorite female characters in horror, and I think I should probably do the same
- My favorite part of this piece on Carrie is how Alexandra tries to complicate our staid interpretations of womanhood in de Palma’s film with a short reassessment of Sue Snell. I think Sue Snell is maybe the most important complicating component of Carrie

- Flavorwire did a pretty neat piece on taxonomies of women that scare audiences
- Our Scottish followers should try to catch the Jennifer’s Bodies Film Festival, which will feature feature-length and short horror films directed by women (location/date TBA)
- Followers in Toronto can go watch Slumber Party Massacre on Feb. 16th. This film is my favorite horror film written and directed by women to start conversations about gendered representation and tropes in the slasher genre.
- The Stranger With My Face Horror Film Festival in Tasmania will be screening the Soska Sisters’ Dead Hooker In a Trunk as well as other female-directed films, Feb. 17-19th
- Folks in Boston can catch the Stiletto film fest Feb. 25th
- I’m way jealous of our Pittsburgh readers right now: On February 25th, Eljay’s Books is going to be having a panel on representation of women in horror featuring, among others, Amy Lynn Best, director of Splatter Movie: The Director’s Cut. I would love to get to talk to her! If anyone goes to that, you should consider writing about the panel for feministfilm! PLUS, A portion of proceeds from book sales will go toward Pittsburgh Action Against Rape.
