Wow, way to give an awesome song a crappy and rather problematic video.

So, I kind of feel the way I did when people accused Rihanna of using blackface in one of her videos. For one, she’s black herself, and two, the bodypaint looked like it was intended to create an unrealistic image, not a skintone. Same thing seems to be happening here, except for Flo being white obviously and thankfully not painted herself. But then again, I’m not black so I suppose I don’t have the proper perspective to determine whether bodypaint used this way is offensive.

However, I find it interesting that Florence and the Machine’s music is so heavily influenced by gospel, and yet she would make a video that’s potentially insensitive to African American culture. That’s pretty icky to me. 

And on a completely unrelated note, omg I love boys choirs. For all the wrong reasons. *hides*
